2024 School Board Elections

Elections will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 for all boards of education.
 
The Horizon School Division Board of Education is made up of 14 subdivisions in east central Saskatchewan. See a map of Horizon's 43 schools at this link.

Information for Candidates
 
September 16, 2024 – Horizon School Division's Returning Officer will issue the Call for Nominations
October 9, 2024 – Nomination forms will be accepted by the Returning Officer until 4 p.m. on this date.
Candidate Qualifications (Section 45 of The Local Government Elections Act, 2015)
 
A person is eligible to be nominated as a candidate for, and to hold office as a board member for a school division if the person:
  • Is a voter of the school division on the day of the election (to be a voter you must be 18 years of age)
  • Is a Canadian citizen at the time that he or she submits his or her nomination paper and,
  • Has resided:
    • In the school division for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the date on which he or she submitted the nomination paper; and
    • In Saskatchewan for at least six months immediately preceding the date on which he or she submitted the nomination paper.
 
A candidate may run for office in any, but only one, subdivision of the school division, and the electors signing the individual's nomination form must be from the subdivision the candidate is running in.
Important: Please note that Criminal Record Checks are required as part of nominations. These checks must be completed no more than 90 days before the nomination deadline of October 9, 2024.
 
Completed nomination forms, including criminal record checks, will be made available to the public.
 
Forms will be received based on completeness, and for Subdivisions 1 through 10 must:
  • Be signed by exactly 10 nominators who are electors of the subdivision where the candidate is seeking election.
  • Include the street road address or the legal land description of the land on which the nominee's right to vote is based (location of residence).
  • Include each nominator's street road address or the legal land description on which the nominator's right to vote is based (location of residence).
  • Include the nominee's acceptance of the nomination statement.
The candidates' acceptance of nomination form must accompany the nomination form to complete the submission process. It must include:
  • Signature of the person nominated.
  • Contact information of the person nominated.
  • Signature of two witnesses (who do not have to be electors of the school division).

Forms will be received based on completeness, and for Subdivisions 11, 12, 13, and 14, must:
  • Be signed by at least five (5) persons who are:
    • 18 years of age
    • Band Members residing in the First Nation subdivision
  • Contain a complete portion of the 'Candidate Acceptance' that is signed by the candidate being nominated and witnessed by two other individuals.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure their nomination papers have been received by the Returning Officer.

The Act makes provisions for a person to withdraw his or her nomination any time after the form has been filed, during normal office hours, up to 24 hours after the close of nominations.
 
The withdrawal request (in writing) must be filed with the Returning Officer signed by the person nominated and two (2) witnesses or the returning office or nominations officer.

  • Subdivision 3 – Nokomis, Viscount, and Watrous
  • Subdivision 4 – Drake, Englefeld, Lanigan, Muenster, and Watson
  • Subdivision 5 – LeRoy and Wynyard 
  • Subdivision 6 – Quill Lake and Wadena 
  • Subdivision 7 – Archerwill, Kelvington, and Rose Valley
  • Subdivision 8 – Bulyea, Holdfast, Imperial, and Strasbourg
  • Subdivision 9 – Punnichy and Raymore
